Martin Avery Ashton, born in 1943, was the only recorded son of Raymond Samuel Ashton and Evelyn Grace Ashton, and the figure through whom the Caleb branch of the Ashton family passed from Briarmont's older generations to its living ones.
He married Caroline Ruth Bell, and together they raised three children: Simone, who would take the Mitchell name by marriage; Clarence Ashton II, later mayor of Briarmont; and Joseph. Where the senior Ashton line had left the town after 1949, it was Martin's household that kept the family name present in Briarmont's story through the second half of the century. He died in 2021.
