New to Briarmont, or Second Life itself? Start here. If your question isn't below, the guides go deeper - and the Discord is always open.
Joining
Make a free Second Life avatar, teleport in from the Find Us in SL page, wear the Briarmont HUD, and open Profile to create your character in the Munibase dashboard and pick a starter path. The Getting Started guide walks through it.
This is possible after you make a character. Then, if you haven't already, make sure to Join the Discord using this link, then go to the discord-linking channel and follow instructions carefully there. You'll want to have your Character Dashboard open and your character selected first, because the code expires.
In Discord, press the pinned Link Discord button and give it your character's name, spelled exactly as you have it. Discord sends you back a one-time code. Then, on your character's page in Munibase, find the endorsement slip, type the code into the box and click Endorse. That's it! You only need to do this once, because linking one character links every character on your Second Life account.
If you have any difficulties, ask for help in the Briarmont OOC channel in-world, or on Discord..
No. Plenty of residents arrive with just a name and figure the rest out by playing. Starter quests help you find your character, and the Oakridge admissions walk is the first one open.
Munibase is our own community platform. Developed with roleplay communities in mind, it powers all of our infrastructure here at Briarmont. From character creation, quests, rentals, RP$, progression tracking and much, much more, Munibase is the heart of how everything connects in Briarmont.
Access & Cost
Yes. A Second Life account and the viewer are free, and joining Briarmont costs nothing. You only spend L$ if you choose to rent a home or buy items in-world.
Homes and shops are let by the Township and tracked in Munibase, priced in L$ (Linden Dollars). Browse the Rentals page, then inquire in-world. See the Rental Covenant.
In-World
A small on-screen panel you wear in-world - your control panel for characters, quests, events, travel, health, dice, currency, and more. See Using the Briarmont HUD.
Re-attach it from the arrival point, or follow the reset steps in the Discord #help channel. Staff can re-issue one if needed.
Roleplay
Slice-of-life on a Northern California coast, with room for drama, mystery, and long-running story. It's character-driven and community-run - no forced storylines.
Briarmont's regions are Moderate-rated. Public spaces keep to a Moderate standard. Explicit content stays in private, access-restricted spaces, and consent is required for mature scenes. See Community Standards.
Standing tracks how established your character is - it grows with quests, jobs, events, and time in town. It builds slowly on purpose. See Reputation & Standing.
Getting Help
The community Discord is the fastest place - there's a help channel and staff who answer. You can also ask anyone in-world; most residents are happy to point you around.
Still stuck? The community is the fastest way to an answer.
