briarmont township from the water
Township · Briarmont, CA

A town between the redwoods and the sea.

Grown from a 19th-century logging camp into a coastal community of mill, harbor, and college - this is the place you'll live your story.

Welcome to Briarmont

Briarmont sits where the redwood line meets the salt water - a town that has never quite decided whether it belongs to the forest or the sea.

The recorded township began in 1830 as a small coastal landing and trading outpost; the timber years came in 1857, when Elias Hartwell’s company turned the quiet outpost into a mill town and the harbor grew to carry the lumber out. Today the mill runs at a fraction of its old capacity, the harbor takes research vessels more than freight, and the streets between them hold cafés, galleries, and the slow business of staying.

The life here

Who lives in Briarmont

It's a place people arrive in for different reasons - chasing something, running from it, or simply following a road that brought them here without much of a plan. The coast has a way of holding people like that.

Dockhands and lifeguards work the water; students and professors fill Oakridge; shopkeepers, artists, cooks, and drifters make the streets in between. Some come to build a quiet life. Some come to disappear. Everyone ends up part of the town's record.
