Oakridge College Student Handbook

A short guide for players whose characters study at Oakridge College: how to enroll, take classes and read grades, what campus is like and where to get help.

Being a Student at Oakridge

Out of character. Everything below is written to you as a player, for a character who studies at Oakridge.

Enrolling

Enrolling happens in world: you use the computer in the Admissions office to apply, the printer beside it for your letter if you're accepted, the tablet on the Registrar's desk to register and declare your major, and the printer at the reception desk for your student card. The steps are in Enrolling as a student.

Classes

The course catalog lists what's taught, and you can browse it without logging in. You register in the Oakridge College group room on Munibase, by either of two routes: the link you get at the tablet on the Registrar's desk, or your character dashboard, through the Oakridge College group's portal, when you're already signed in to Munibase.

You can enroll in a course while a term is open and drop one the same way; any marks you've been given stay on your record. Seats are limited, so a class can fill up. Everything you're taking is listed under My courses.

Classes meet in world, at a set time and room each week, and you attend in character. A session is a roleplay scene: your teacher asks questions, hands out readings and sets work, and you answer as your character would. Some sessions leave the room for the hillsides the mill cut bare, or go out from the harbor on the college's research vessels. Attendance is recorded automatically while you're in the classroom for a scheduled meeting, but it doesn't count toward a grade.

Grading

On each assessment your teacher gives you a letter from A to F, with pluses and minuses, and the letters are averaged by weight into your GPA, which you can see under My record in the Oakridge College group room. To graduate, you need your program's required courses and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Credits for each level are on Majors and Programs.

On campus

Oakridge is part of Briarmont, so the Community Covenant and How to roleplay at Briarmont apply on campus as they do in town. Dorm rooms and Greek houses are private.

Trouble your character gets into is played out in roleplay. On campus, the office that deals with it is Campus Security.

Students gather at Surveyors' Hall, the student center, where the cafeteria is. Student Council is where students take their ideas for campus life.

Getting help

Your character's questions about enrolling, courses or records go to the Registrar's desk. Out of character, ask staff on Discord or look through the help guides. If you're new to Briarmont altogether, start with Getting started: your first day in Briarmont.

Your teachers work from the Oakridge College Faculty Handbook, and anyone can read it.
