Briarmont development roadmap

What comes next for Briarmont

Briarmont's quest system is fully operational and already runs Oakridge admissions. New quests will ramp up in Q4 2026 and expand rapidly through the first half of 2027. The roadmap also includes northern parkland, southern housing, and character inventories, with items, investigations, and hospital treatment becoming part of more stories as those features arrive.

  • Oakridge College: admissions and fall classes

Oakridge admissions already uses Briarmont's fully operational quest system. Apply at the Admissions office computer, register for courses at the Registrar's desk, and collect your student card from the reception desk printer. Fall classes began August 31, and Greek life includes five houses.

  • The HUD

The HUD includes a titler, community standing and level, health information, weather, dice, and a follow feature that asks the other player's permission. Reputation changes with what your character does in town.

  • Public safety

EMS dispatch and the public scanner are available on the website. NPC 911 calls and an automated dispatcher run through the radio. Deputies use Munibase for citations, warrants, and vehicle records.

  • Rentals and RP$

The rental board supports weekly leases and short stays, with meters and door access. Characters earn RP$ through timeclocks. Vendor and group kiosks are also in use.

Q4 2026

October to December

This fall brings more quest content and work on the northern and southern regions. The HUD redesign, department tools, and website event requests are also scheduled for Q4.

Phase 1 Q4 2026

Quests and Game Days

More quests for Oakridge and the town are in development. Content will ramp up in Q4 and expand rapidly through January to June 2027, with inventory supporting item-based quests, investigations, and treatment stories as those features become available. Football seasons and athletics clothing are also planned for the fall.

In developmentItems: 4 in development · 1 in design

  • Oakridge story questline

    In development

A new story questline set at Oakridge College is being prepared for play. It adds to the quest system already used for admissions.

  • Town starter quests

    In design

Three to five short quests will introduce new characters to civic offices, groups they can join, and jobs they can try.

  • NPC conversations

    In development

Conversations with NPCs will offer dialogue choices. Their replies and your decisions can advance a quest.

  • Dice football seasons

    In development

Mustangs dice football will use the field as the game board. Each possession lasts four plays, with games expected to run about 90 minutes. Season records will include results and a headline for each game.

  • Oakridge Athletics clothing

    In development

Oakridge Athletics outfits will use a shared clothing HUD to change textures. Cheer and swim team kits will remain exclusive to their squads.

Phase 2 Q4 2026

New Land

The northern and southern expansion is in development for Q4 2026. Hartwell State Park and beach homes are taking shape to the north; the southern work includes residential parcels and the Juniper Hotel suites.

In developmentItems: 4 in development

  • Hartwell State Park

    In development

Hartwell State Park is in development across Brackenmere and Emberglow. Plans include hiking and riding trails, a swimming beach, a marina and boat launch, and a fishing lake. Rentable cabins and campsites will sit alongside an amphitheater, festival field, wedding grove, picnic grounds, and ranger station.

  • Beach housing

    In development

A small number of private homes overlooking the park's beach, available as weekly rentals.

  • Southern residential district

    In development

Solarus and Briarmont will have private rental parcels ranging in size from cottage lots to shore estates. The layout follows the existing coastline and adds named lanes. Rentals will use the town's weekly lease system and be paid in L$.

  • The Juniper Hotel

    In development

Guests will book at a front desk in town and stay in private suites on separate parcels in the south. Hotel jobs will include reception and room service. Nightly stays will cost L$; the Motel will continue to offer in-character stays paid in RP$.

Phase 3 Q4 2026

The New HUD

The HUD is being redesigned, both the tall rail and the wide bar. Either can shrink to a narrow strip when you want more room on your screen. Quests and the calendar will open on their own screens inside the HUD, instead of only as pop-up menus.

In developmentItems: 2 in development

  • The redesign

    In development

The layout is finished, with every screen drawn to exact sizes. Building it in Second Life is the next step.

  • Quests and the calendar

    In development

Quests will open as a numbered list in your own chat, with a HUD button for each one. Tabs separate what you have accepted from what you can pick up, and your level and experience sit along the bottom. Tapping a number reads out the quest and your current task, then opens the menu you use now; a calendar event reads out the same way.

Phase 4 Q4 2026

The Town Works

Department workspaces for the Sheriff, Fire, and EMS are in development, along with website event requests. Staff will have records and dispatch tools for their roles, and members will be able to submit events for the town calendar.

In developmentItems: 3 in development

  • Sheriff's Department

    In development

Deputies will have records, citations, warrants, dispatch, and vehicle files in one department workspace. These records will also support the investigation quests planned alongside inventory.

  • Fire and EMS

    In development

Fire and EMS will have a department workspace for inspections, incident history, duty rosters, and dispatch.

  • Event requests

    In development

Submit a time, venue, and poster through the website. Staff will check scheduling conflicts and land impact before approval. Approved events will appear on the town and Discord calendars.

Q1 2027

January to March

Quest content continues to expand. Inventory will add items that characters can use, trade, or hold as evidence, while banking, business tools, and patient charts support work and hospital roleplay.

Phase 5 Q1 2027

Things You Carry

Character inventories will let you buy, carry, use, and give items to other players. Quest items, shop stock, stolen goods, and evidence will use the same system. Inventory is targeted for Q1; later stages, including health and treatment quests, continue into Q2.

In designItems: 1 in design · 1 planned

  • Inventory rollout

    In design

Characters will have a limited number of carrying slots, with extra space in purses, backpacks, and bags. Lockers, safes, and group vaults will provide storage. The nine stages below describe the rollout across more than one quarter.

    See all 9 stages
    1. Personal belongings An item catalog and personal inventories, with a record of who holds each item and where it came from.
    2. Cards, letters, and quest items Existing student cards, letters, and quest tokens will move into inventory, with checks to preserve items and quest progress.
    3. Shopping and trading Purchases, receipts, player trades, and storage containers. Vendors will check age or permits where required.
    4. Status effects Substances that wear off, illness, injury, and other effects that change how the town responds to your character.
    5. Theft and stolen goods Dice-based theft, a separate roll to determine whether a camera recorded it, and stolen goods that need a fence.
    6. IDs and evidence Frisks, ID cards, forged IDs, police record checks, and evidence storage. A forged ID will fail a police lookup.
    7. Investigation quests Case files, warrants, detective work, and trials played through quests, with inventory items held as evidence.
    8. Bounties and treatment Bounty hunters, plus the Q2 health features: contagion, masks, vaccines, and hospital treatment quests. Medical items will be used in character care.
    9. Member playtesting Existing members will receive the first release for playtesting. Consequences will be adjusted based on that testing.
  • Cash and deposit boxes

    Planned

Once inventory is in place, RP$ can be carried as cash, handed to another character, lost, or deposited at the bank. Deposit boxes will provide storage.

Phase 6 Q1 2027

Main Street

Banking, business accounts, and a jobs board will give characters more ways to earn and spend RP$. Shop stock and physical cash depend on the inventory rollout.

In designItems: 2 in design · 1 planned

  • Patient charts

    In design

Hospital staff will record visits and treatment in character charts so they can follow a patient's care across visits. They will also be able to check the current duty roster.

  • Patient portal

    In design

Read your character's chart online, even if you are not a member of the hospital group.

  • Diagnostic equipment

    Planned

An exam table, scanner, and lab bench are planned to read a character's recorded conditions and return results for hospital roleplay. They depend on the character health systems.

Phase 8 Q1 2027

An optional attachment for adult roleplay, connected to character health and pregnancy. It will not affect anyone who isn't wearing it.

In designItems: 3 in design · 2 planned

  • Cycle and conception

    In design

After Dark will connect to the HUD's opt-in cycle system, adding conception chances from intimacy and pregnancy stages displayed on the HUD.

    In design

Interactions will ask the other wearer for permission through the HUD. Consent can be withdrawn at any time. Staff and moderators will have no bypass.

  • Protection

    Planned

Protection items are planned to prevent conception and exposure within these roleplay systems. They depend on inventory.

A hospital delivery encounter that staff can record in the character's chart.

  • Exposure

    In design

Exposure through intimacy will use the HUD's character health system.

Phase 10 Q2 2027

Public Health

Illnesses, outbreak events, and treatment quests will connect character health with hospital care. Inventory will supply medical items for these stories as quest content expands through the first half of 2027.

In designItems: 2 in design · 2 planned

  • Contagion

    In design

Character illnesses will be able to spread through proximity, contact, or specific actions, with exposure records.

  • Outbreaks

    In design

  • Masks and vaccines

    Planned

Masks and vaccines will be inventory items that prevent exposure or provide immunity within the character health system.

  • Treatment quests

    Planned

Hospital quests will follow a character through treatment after a diagnosis, using their recorded condition and medical inventory items.

Phase 11 Q2 2027

Certifications and Internships
