Seth Lathrop is a carpenter and contractor who works mostly on buildings from the mill years. Several of the cafés in the old mill buildings opened after his crew had been through them: new floors over the original joists, sash windows rebuilt rather than replaced. He would rather mend old framing than tear it out, and he will spend a week tracking down salvaged redwood from a teardown before he puts new lumber in.
Hiring him takes patience. He is booked months ahead and will not quote a place he has not seen. His estimates are high and usually right. He points out rot nobody asked about and turns down jobs he thinks would ruin a building, vinyl siding most of all. When the work piles up in summer he takes on a hand or two, who are expected on site at seven.
He is Lewis Lathrop's grandson. The family store had closed before he was born. He holds no office at Town Hall and has never wanted one.
Out of character. Seth Lathrop is an NPC, and staff may voice him at events. In roleplay you find him on a job somewhere in town, hire him for a build or a repair, or sign on to his crew for the summer; he will want to see the place first.
