Briarmont runs down to its harbor, and the college stands above the town on the old Hartwell estate.
In town
- Town Hall, where the council meets and the Hartwell County Clerk keeps the original of Elias Hartwell's will and the ledgers of the town's trust.
- The chapel, built with money Orrin Lathrop raised, a good share of it from the crews whose store accounts he kept.
- The harbor, where a chute once sent the mill's lumber down the bluff to schooners, and where Kristin Spurling now assigns the moorings.
- The Crenshaw Oak, planted in 1918, the year the Institute opened, as a public sign of restoration after the logging.
- Astoria Towers, apartments put up in the 1920s for the Institute's teachers and students and let today to anyone who wants one.
- Hartwell General Hospital, which trains the college's Health students and holds the town's winter blood drive.
- The station of the Briarmont Fire Department, whose original brass fire bell is rung at line-of-duty funerals.
- The sheriff's station of the Hartwell County Sheriff's Department.
On campus
- Oakridge College, which the Institute became when it was accredited on July 1, 1947.
- Hartwell Manor, the house Hartwell left to the town in 1911, where applications to the college start and the college archive fills his old library.
- Surveyors' Hall, the student center and its cafeteria, across the road from the manor and named for the surveyors the Institute trained.
