Briarmont goes Adult

All six Briarmont regions are rated Adult now. Drugs, crime and shootouts can play out in public, sex stays private, and in-world law still applies.

Briarmont goes Adult

Out of character. A note from the Briarmont team.

Okay, news: all six of Briarmont’s regions are rated Adult now, and we’re pretty excited about it.

Why we went Adult

Night at Hartwell General: paramedics rush a gurney from the ambulance under the EMERGENCY canopy, while across the lot a guy in a puffer jacket shows a nervous college kid a jacket lined with pill bottles.

When we started, Moderate made sense. We really did think we were building a family-friendly community roleplay. Then we kept building out the lore and Munibase, and what we want for this place got a lot bigger. We didn’t want to rule out roleplay with real conflict in it, since that’s where so much of the good IC stuff starts.

The line between Moderate and Adult is very gray. Moderate would have covered about 90 percent of what we do here. Most of what it couldn’t cover was drugs.

What’s open now

A shootout downtown: masked robbers in the foreground fire down the street at deputies crouched behind their Hartwell County Sheriff SUV by the big oak.

The playing field just got a lot bigger, and we mean cops and robbers for real. Drug use, injury and crime can all happen in public now. A robbery can turn into a shootout with the sheriff’s department. Deputies can work a narcotics case from the first tip to the arrest right out on the street. Somebody overdoses, and they get rushed into Hartwell General in front of half the town. A bar fight spills onto the sidewalk. If your character carries a badge, works a night shift in the ER or has a habit they can’t kick, that’s a lot more to work with.

Nudity in public is allowed too, and a nightclub can put on a strip show. Sex is still for private places, like your home or rental, a dorm room, a Greek house or a clubhouse.

The law still applies

Court in session: a handcuffed defendant in a flashy suit before the judge, with baggies, a bagged handgun and a pink feather boa on the evidence table, and a packed gallery.

Here’s the catch. Our rules allow all of it, but in character, California and Briarmont law still hold. Shoot at a deputy and you’d better be ready to run. Walk down Main Street naked and you can get arrested for it. Deal drugs, start a fight or rob somebody, and you could end up in front of a judge. Honestly, that’s half the fun. The Briarmont Municipal Code has the details if you want to know what you’re risking.

What stays the same, mostly

Twilight on a residential corner: a Hartwell County Sheriff SUV rolls past with its spotlight on, a neighbor peeks through the blinds, and two women clink wine glasses on a porch.

A regular night in town is going to look about like it always has. Gore and graphic violence are still off the table. Family stories aren’t going anywhere, and we love having them. There’s one new rule for those: keep prim and animesh babies well away from anything sexual, adult furniture included.

None of the new stuff is required. If a scene isn’t for you, just excuse yourself and go find another one.
