The new Briarmont site is live

The new briarmont-sl.com is live. The short version: if it exists in Briarmont, you can now look it up!

Who lives here and what they do. Which shops are open and who runs them. What the college teaches and when term starts. What happened on this coast in 1870 and who it happened to. Where the empty houses are. What’s on the radio this week.

Almost none of it is maintained by hand. Register a citizen, open a business, take a lot, book a DJ slot, write a lore article, and it appears on the site on its own. Town data comes straight from Munibase, and the lore and the guides come out of our wiki as crafters write them. The site changes when the town changes, which means it’s right more often than a website usually is.

Look anyone up

The citizens roll is up to 190, opt-in and searchable, each entry with a portrait and whatever office that person holds. Twenty-one businesses are registered beside it, and the three civic departments list their leadership by name with a link to join: the Briarmont Fire Department, the Hartwell County Sheriff Department and Hartwell General Hospital.

About Briarmont takes you through nine stops, from the harbor and Main Street to the courthouse, the hospital and Bellhaven Chapel. The art was drawn from the real builds, so the corner in the picture is the corner you stand on.

The archive holds 110 pages across 14 books, readable in full rather than summarized, and where a crafter signed an article their name is on it.

Not all of it is county business. In September 1959 the president of Oakridge College went into the woods with three students and none of them came back. Sheriff Harold “Hal” Humbolt took the case and disappeared before the month was out. His badge turned up in the forest. He didn’t. Both files went cold in 1962, and the case sits beside the biographies of both missing men with each one linking back to the others.

Nathaniel Vale, a woods guide for Hartwell Timber, walked into the trees around 1870 and was never found either. The Briarmont Yarrow League has been going since 1910, when it came out of the California suffrage campaign, and it’s half garden club and half town watchdog. Its motto is “Better that than nobody noticing when the town starts to rot.”

The founding families get a hub each, opening onto 38 more pages of Ashtons, Hales, Briggses and Hartwells. The Ashton tree alone runs 31 people over seven generations, big enough that on a desktop you drag it around to follow a line. An illustrated timeline runs alongside it all, 17 entries from the 1830 landing to those 1959 disappearances.

The college, in full

Oakridge opened as a forestry institute in 1918 and wasn’t chartered a college until 1947. Its 36 programs of study and 13 academic departments are written up in the archive, the class list for the coming term is on the site, and so are the dorms and four Greek houses that already have members and a named lead. Admission takes three steps, all done in-world. No form, no tuition.

What’s happening this week

The community calendar, the stream board where DJs book slots and KBRM posts its schedule, the job board, what’s for rent, and a read-only mirror of the EMS dispatch console with its Fire, Sheriff and EMS bands. The boards are hooked up and mostly empty at the moment, so whoever posts first gets the page to themselves.

What’s coming

The Oakridge school year opens on August 31, which gives you a month to work out who you are before term starts. The quest system is close behind it, and when it lands it’ll be how you apply to the college.
